My husband (and co-chef) and I came up with this recipe one Canadian Thanksgiving. I was noodling on ideas for a fall inspired cocktail and came up with the majority of the recipe. While taste testing (hardest part of our job), he suggested adding a half ounce of bourbon. I was skeptical at first, till I tried it. It really rounded out the edges and created a complex, yet very quaffable cocktail. So much so I even let him name it. I think he did pretty good. What do you think?
Wipe rim of a rocks glass with orange peel. Add all ingredients to a shaker except sparkling wine. Shake hard about 30 times. Pour over ice in rocks glass, top with sparkling wine. Garnish with an orange twist.
Makes one cocktail, about five ounces. Easily doubles, triples, etc. If we are serving the with a holiday dinner I make a big batch of these (minus the sparkling wine) and keep it in the fridge. When it comes time to serve, just pour over ice and top with sparkling wine.
